Get Off Your Gas and Pedal

by:

Did you know that May is Bike Month? Well, there’s only a week left, so air up those tires, strap on those helmets, and get ready to ride!

Besides as a way to have fun, the League of American Bicyclists hopes to promote daily bike riding and draw attention to the many benefits it provides for your health and the environment. For example, did you know that the average adult burns 422 calories during one hour of light bike riding? Or that harmful car emissions could be reduced by 2-4 percent if Americans switched from driving their cars to riding their bikes only four days per year?

With all these advantages to cycling, it’s time to get riding. Are your kids rookies? No problem. The summer is a great time to learn to ride, and you can find resources on the site to help teach your child to handle a two-wheeler and embark on their own adventures.

If you want to participate in Bike Month, but don’t have a bicycle handy, then look in your area for a bike sharing program that provides the community with day-use bicycles using this directory or try a Google search.

To figure out exactly how much money you could save by cycling, check out this nifty calculator!

Take a look at our own bike riding footage. We hope it inspires you! Be sure to comment below and share with us where your biking adventures took you.
